Eugene S. Coffey

Eugene S. Coffey, 84, of 1288 Belmar Road, Franklin, died at 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2008, at Sugar Creek Station. Born Jan. 18, 1924, in Nicklin, he was the son of Clinton Coffey and Fay Hovis. Mr. Coffey retired from Joy Manufacturing in 1987, after working for more than 40 years as a mechanic in the gear department. He was a World War II veteran with the Army in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle Church. Mr. Coffey liked hunting, the outdoors and gardening. He was very active in church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Bonnie Reed of Franklin; two grandchildren, Aleta Shultz and husband, Joseph, of Taiwan and Paul Edward Reed, Jr. and wife, Jen, of Danville, Ky.; five great-grandchildren, Keegan Reed, Duglan Reed, Zoe Reed, Kelly Beers and Jason Beers, all of Danville, Ky.; and two brothers, Roy T. Coffey and wife, Ruth, of Franklin and Norman Coffey and wife, Lois, also of Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; and a son-in-law, Paul Edward Reed, Sr., who was killed in 1970 in Vietnam. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home Inc. in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Mark Fultz of Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle officiating.
