Esther Mae Baker, 90, of Cooperstown passed away on March 9, 2025 at The Caring Place in Franklin.

She was born on January 9, 1935 in Franklin to the late Walter and Erma (Pyle) Peterson.

Esther married James Schwimmer on June 23, 1956 who preceded her in death on February 5, 1965. She then married Glenn Baker on March 6, 1966 who preceded her in death on September 10, 2022.

Esther was a 1955 graduate of Franklin Area High School. She worked at the Northwest Medical Center/Franklin Campus as a Nutritional Supervisor, retiring after 41 years of service.

She was an active member of the Franklin Church of the Nazarene where she served as treasurer for 40 years and served on the Church Board as Trustee, as well as numerous other capacities over the years.

Esther loved spending time with her family, including her church family. One could always find Esther and Glenn working on activities at the church, organizing get togethers, and helping family and friends with their home improvement projects. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.

She is survived by her son Jim Schwimmer of Franklin; her daughter Vicki Myers and her husband, Bob, of Franklin; her grandchildren Amy Minnear and her husband, Todd, of Butler, Erin Hanna and her husband, Michael, of Brookville, Stefanie Beightol and her husband, Josh, of Franklin, Brian Kinsner of Franklin, Tom Myers of Franklin, and Rob Myers of Hendersonville, NC; her 8 great grandchildren; her brothers Edward Peterson and his wife, Faye, of Franklin, and Bob Peterson and his wife, Sandy of Franklin; her sister-in-law, Barbara Rodebaugh of Copperhill, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Schwimmer, her son William Schwimmer; her daughter-in-law Vivian Schwimmer; her sisters Estella Matthews and husband, Jay, and Evelyn Haney and husband, Harry; her brothers Herman Peterson and wife Margaret, Ralph Peterson and wife, Alberta, and Richard Peterson and wife Shirley; and her brother-in-law James Rodebaugh

Guests will be received at the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, March 12th from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Funeral services for Esther will be held at the Franklin Church of the Nazarene, 393 Pone Lane, Franklin on Thursday, March 13th at 11:00 am with Pastor David Smith, pastor of the church, officiating.

Esther will be laid to rest next to her husband in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin.
