Edward J. Schuster
ERIE - Edward J. Schuster, 87, of Erie and of Spring Hill, Fla., died Friday, May 1, 2009, at Oak Hill Hospital in Brookville, Fla.He was born April 30, 1922, in Widen, W.Va., a son of the late John and Agnes Lahoda Schuster.
He married Beatrice Rush, June 19, 1946. She preceded him in death July 19, 2005.
He was employed as an electrical engineer with GTE Telephone Co.
He was a World War II veteran, with the rank of sergeant, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Sept. 22, 1942, until Feb. 6, 1946.
He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Spring Hill and St. Jude Catholic Church in Erie.
He loved golfing and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and Cleveland Indians fan.
He is survived by four sisters, Mary Truchan of Meadville, Dorothy Leffingwell and her husband, William, of Meadville, Jenny Kelyman and her husband, Paul, of Conneautville, and Betty Noel and her husband, Robert, of Meadville; a nephew, Paul Kelyman Sr. of Saegertown, and a nephew, Paul, and niece, Denise McHale and her husband, Pete, of Meadville; three great-nephews, Paul (Chip) Kelyman Jr., Justin McHale and Jared McHale; a great-niece, Nicole Kelyman; and his companion, Gisele Guichard of Spring Hill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Schuster; and a great-niece, Cynthia Kelyman.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A vigil prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Hippolyte Catholic Church, Frenchtown, with Father Dennis Veltri as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
