Dorothy Strickenburg, 85, of 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin, formerly of 340 Crestview Drive, Franklin, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Sugar Creek Station. Born Sept. 17, 1922, in Omaha, Neb., Douglas County, she was the daughter of Patrik W. Hanson and Lillie May Taft. Mrs. Strickenburg graduated from Stanton High School in Stanton, Iowa, in 1940. She married Robert Strickenburg on May 4, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2000. Mrs. Strickenburg was a homemaker. She enjoyed needlework, wordworking, square dancing with "The Shindiggers," traveling with her husband in their motorhome and Hanson family reunions. She babysat for several families in the Franklin area and immensely enjoyed watching the children, along with her grandchildren, grow into young adulthood. Mrs. Strickenburg is survived by two children, Dennis L. Strickenburg of Seneca and Sandra K. Early of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Davina J. Reid of Clearwater, Fla., and Joseph D. Early of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Doris Braesch and Joyce Jacobsen, both of Omaha; one brother, Wayne Hanson of Omaha; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Rodney K. Strickenburg; a brother, Gillis Hanson; four sisters, Patricia Page, Louise Drouillard; Violet Saxton and Ellen Arganbright. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Evans, VNA Hospice pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Franklin Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Stanton Historical Society, PO Box 231, Stanton, Iowa, 51573.
