CONNEAUT LAKE — Ann (Dolly) Yost-Warren Etter, 93, of 13525 Middle Road, Conneaut Lake, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at her residence.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1915 in Webster Groves, Mo., the daughter of the late Robert George Yost and Grovena Stephenson Warren Yost, and the granddaughter of the late Captain Henry E. Warren and his wife, Charlotte Gibson, of Richland, Mo., and Caspar S. Yost and his wife, Anna Augusta Parrott, of St. Louis, Mo.
She married Thomas F. Etter on April 30, 1935. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2002.
She had attended the Unitarian Universal Church in Meadville.
She had worked at Wesbury in Meadville, and at the Iroquois Club in Conneaut Lake.
She had written two books, "Baling Twine and Burlap" and "Oh, No! Not Mother's Poems"
Together with her husband Thomas, they partnered in farming and caring for a local dairy farm, participating in every aspect of everyday chores and upkeep and nurturing the farm.
She was known to "light up" any room she went into by the time she walked out. She had been given the nick-name "Smiley."
She and her late husband, Thomas, were both very active in the Meadville Area Community Ambassador Program for many years. She was also a Master Gardener in both flowers and vegetables. She was very knowledgeable and very active in watching birds; was a veracious reader; and was very interested in politics. She was a lover of music and a very amazing cook.
Surviving are two daughters, Gwen Chute and her husband, Edward Chute, of Mt. Pleasant, and Elizabeth Etter of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Thomas Edward Chute and his wife, Tammy, Michael David Chute and his wife, Jane, Emily Elizabeth Owen and William Thomas Owen; two great-grandchildren, Megan Chute and Justin Chute; a niece, Joanne Yost of St. Louis; and a nephew, Warren Yost of New York.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Etter; a son, Thomas Yost Etter; and a brother, Robert Yost.
Memorial service will be held and announced at a later date.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the French Creek Valley Conservancy, PO Box 434 Meadville, Pa. 16335.
