Dennis R. McCarren, 85, of Wilson Avenue, Franklin died on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Kindred Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born June 14, 1928 in Butler, PA, Dennis was the son of the late William L. and Annie M. (McGrady) McCarren. On September 13, 1952 he married the former Dolores A.M. Parks, who survives. Mr. McCarren was a 1946 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in Submarine Service. He enlisted in the service on June 22, 1948 and was discharged on June 18, 1952. In 1948 he entered Great Lakes Boot Camp until he transferred to Submarine School. He also studied basic electronics, correspondence courses, and two different sub based schools on diesel engines. During the Korean War he served aboard the USS Corsair SS435 and the USS Croaker SS246. Dennis was employed as a diesel mechanic and erector at CPT for over 38 years until his retirement on June 30, 1984. He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, a life member of the Catholic War Veterans, and a life member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. McCarren enjoyed woodworking, traveling, camping, walking, golfing, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Dolores A.M. McCarren, he is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Ann Supak and her husband, Richard B. of Franklin, Kathleen Marie Rogers of Franklin, and Christine Jo Bell and her husband, Franklin D. of Franklin; a brother, William McCarren of Cooperstown, and a sister-in-law, Kathryn McCarren of Franklin. Mr. McCarren is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Erin Engler and her husband, Matthew, of Alburtis, PA, Kelly Rekiel and her husband, Christopher of Cranberry Twp., PA, Adam Rogers of Franklin, Joseph Rogers of Franklin, Joanna McElhattan and her husband, Dustin of Franklin, Amanda Bell and her fiance, John Resinger of Franklin and Leanna Bell of Franklin; and his great-granddaughter, Anna Rekiel of Cranberry Twp. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Guy C. Rogers; a brother, Leo McCarren; and a sister-in-law, Lenore McCarren. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, from 3-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Saint Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 949 Liberty Street, Franklin with Monsignor John J. Herbein as celebrant. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.     Denny holds a special place in our hearts.  He was always there with a smile on his face and so nice to all of us Paskie kids as we were growing up.  He’s in good company now…. we remember him fondly.

    We just read in the paper about your loss. As you are aware we are in warmer  southern area. Our sympathy is with you at this time. My message to the girls and  their family is remember all the good times and knowing what your Dad has been through he will be be in heaven watching over you. my Dad passed away when he was 49 from a heart condition.  God Bless you all.
