David R. Haylett, 84, of Franklin, passed away at UPMC Northwest in Seneca on Monday, May 20th, 2013, following a brief illness. Born January 11, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, David was the son of the late Hugh Glenn and Mabel Rebecca Pratt Haylett. He worked at Pennzoil as a Crane Operator for more than 40 years and was a Peacetime Marine Veteran. In his younger days, David enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, driving his Amphi car, and spending time with his siblings. In the past few years he enjoyed spending time with the special members of his family. He also helped with Meals-on-Wheels. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and attended the Brotherhood Sunday School Class for many years. He enjoyed going to the home of his niece, Kathy, on Sunday, where his nephew-in-law, Ron, would cook him Sunday Dinner. He also enjoyed spending time with his nephew-in-law, Bub, learning how to use the computer. One of his fondest moments was going to the Outer Banks on vacation with his nieces and nephews. David is survived by his 2 nephews, Dan Ward and his wife, Pam, of Rockland, and Jack Greenlee and his wife, Sue, of Cranberry; and his 5 nieces, Becky Anderson and her husband, David, of Mechanicsburg, Kathy Jack and her husband, Ron, of Franklin, Carol Nulph of Franklin, Tamara Dunkle and her husband, Scott, of Seneca, and Sandra Brown and her husband, Glenn (Bub), also of Franklin. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Shaffer of Rockland; numerous great nieces and great nephews; numerous great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and his brother-in-law, Clyde Rex of Polk. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Philip Haylett and Edward Haylett; and his sister, Nancy Rex. Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, May 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, Franklin, on Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m., with Rev. David Janz, pastor of the church officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery on Friday. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, PA Division, PO 896, Hershey PA 17033-0896; Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund; and/or the charity of ones choice. With our deepest sympathy to all Dave’s family, we will surely miss seeing him walk by to the store. He would stop and chat any time he saw me out working beside my house and would give me a warm smile and a friendly hello. He will be missed by all who knew him.
