Clara A. Mattingly, 93, of 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Sugar Creek Station. Born July 1, 1915, in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Mattingly was the daughter of the late Francis Xavier Auth and Marie Koppers. She was married Oct. 25, 1955, to John L. Mattingly, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Mattingly was employed with USN/Federal Government-Department of Navy as a clerk/typist. She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Franklin, where she was very active in the choir, sodality, and as a Eucharistic minister and lector. She was also active at churches in Rehoboth, Del., and Silver Spring, Md. She was involved with senior citizens clubs. Mrs. Mattingly was one of the first physical education teachers in grade schools after President John F. Kennedy initiated physical education in the schools. Mrs. Mattingly is survived by three children, John J. Mattingly and his wife, Christline, of York, S.C., Carol M. Maul and her husband, Andrew, of Franklin, and a stepdaughter, Sister John Bernadine SSJ of Philadelphia.; six grandchildren, Frank V. Weltner III of Erie, Jennifer M. Weltner of Pittsburgh, John T. Maul of Franklin, and Thomas J. Mattingly, Christine Mattingly and Valerie Mattingly, all of York, S.C. She is also survived by two sisters, Sister. M. Rosalia, SSND, and Sister M. Bernarde, SSND, both of Baltimore, Md. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mattingly was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. John Herbein officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Robert W.
