Charles D. Payne Charles D. Payne, 77, of Buttermilk Hill Road, Franklin died at 8:28 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born May 2, 1934 in Akron, OH he was the son of the late Charles M. and Barbara E. Mowrey Payne. Mr. Payne was married on July 17, 1954 to the former Arlynn "Ruby" R. Oglesby. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2011. Charles was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He was a Korean War Era Veteran having served in the Navy. Charles retired from Joy Manufacturing after 31 years as an Experimental Mechanic. He was a member of the Franklin Free Methodist Church. Charles was a lifetime member and former President of both the Utica and Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Departments. He was the former President of the Utica Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Venango County Fire Police. Charles was a member of the Venango Barbertones. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, and fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing in Canada and was an instructor for the Hunter's Safety Courses. He is survived by his sons, James R. Payne and his wife, Tonia of Franklin and Ronald D. Payne of Franklin; his daughter, Susan Buchanan and her husband, Paul of Titusville; his brother, John R. Payne and his wife, Ann of Springcreek, PA; his sister, Juanita M. Wilson of Franklin; 5 grandchildren, James Hutcheson of Titusville, Ben Hutcheson, serving in the armed forces in Kuwait, Jennifer King and her husband, Andy of Franklin, James Payne of Franklin, and Ashley Payne of Franklin; and 2 great grandchildren, Alexander King and Maxwell King, both of Franklin. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held following visitation on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with the Rev. T. Christopher Hill, pastor of the Free Methodist Church in Oil City, officiating. Interment will be in Lupher Chapel Cemetery.
