Cecelia E. Sandok, 91, of 310 11th St., Franklin, died at 8:27 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at her residence. Born Nov. 10, 1917, in Westmoreland County, she was a daughter of Elmer Sphon and Minnie Welch Sphon. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Harry and Stella Jackson. Mrs. Sandok did typing and clerical work for Allegheny County before she retired. She was a member of Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was married May 3, 1940, to Paul Sandok, who preceded her in death. Surviving are a son and his wife, James H. and Judith Sandok of Franklin; three grandchildren, Megan Ann Yeager and her husband, Adam, of Franklin, Elissa Ann Sandok of Franklin and Kelly Ann Sandok of Franklin, a student at the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown; one great-grandson, Ryan James Sandok; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul L. Sandok and also by four brothers, Albert Sphon, Elmer Sphon, Henry Sphon and Nicholas Sphon; and four sisters, Isabele Monnich, Madeine Quissner, Ethel Tisch and Valetta Marenz. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home of Pittsburgh. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Marc de Jeu of Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, Pittsburgh. The family suggests memorials be made to the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church.
