TITUSVILLE " Catherine Louise Kiser Gladys, 86, of Southwoods Assisted Living, Titusville, formerly of Cussewago Road, Meadville, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Southwoods. She was born in Meadville on Aug. 22, 1923, a daughter of Harold and Clara Kiser. She married Thomas W. Gladys June 24, 1944; he preceded her in death. She attended St. Agatha Elementary School and was a 1941 graduate of Meadville High School. She worked at Murphy’s 5 and 10 store, the Academy Theater, A & P and Talon, all in Meadville, and retired from Talon. She was a 1942 Meadville Tennis Championship winner; a member of Catholic Daughters of America and a 1991 Catholic Daughter of the Year; a lifelong member of St. Agatha Church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society; Meadville YMCA; and Talon Retirees. Catherine continued playing tennis, boating and swimming. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening with her husband and family. She made numerous trips to Canada. She also fished at Conneaut Lake and Pymatuning. She liked to go to auctions, garage sales, shopping, casino gambling, and traveling to Alabama, Las Vegas, Nev., and Florida. She liked to play bingo, 500, hearts, any card game and playing the Wii. Catherine loved the holidays, preparing the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, baking Christmas cookies, making chocolate fudge and Easter sweet bread. She loved to take her daughter and friends Halloween trick-or-treating and taking her grandchildren to Conneaut Lake Park along with spending time with her great-grandchildren. She was an avid coupon user. Catherine just enjoyed being around her friends and family. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Kirkwood and her husband, Larry, of Titusville; two grandchildren, Marcy Nystrom and her husband, Jeffrey, of Russell, and Mark T. Kirkwood and his wife, Jamie, of Oil City; four great-grandchildren, Grant T. and Delaney R. Nystrom of Russell, and Jenna E. and Keegan T. Kirkwood of Oil City; two brothers, Bill Kiser of Las Vegas and Jack Kiser of Oneonta, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Lois Gladis of Meadville; three nieces, Connie Brown and her husband, Steve, of Homewood, Ala., Karen Kolbe and her husband, Bruce, of Newark, Ohio, and Marilyn Shook of Meadville; a stepniece, Nancy Leech and her husband, Tom, of Meadville; four nephews, Pat Gladis and his wife, Debbie, of Meadville, Tim Gladis and his wife, Joyce, of Hermitage, Bob Kiser of Irondale, Ala., and Billy Sivik and his wife, Carol, of Florida; three stepnephews, Charles and James Preus, and Alex Vice; long-time friends, Lucille Albaugh, and Marie Smith and her husband, Bill, all of Meadville; several great-nieces and nephews; as well as friends from Meadville and Titusville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Sophia Gladys; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kiser, and William and Catherine Roha; a brother-in-law, Vince Gladis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Pearl Gladis, Joe and Mary Keefe, John and Frances Maysack, and Mike and Jenny Sivik; sisters-in-law, Jane and Justine Kiser; nephews, Bucky Gladis and Art Maysack; and several uncles, aunts cousins and friends. The family will receive friends at St. Agatha Church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in memory and celebrating her life will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, with Father Raymond Gramata of the church as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery, Meadville. In lieu of flowers, at the request of Kay, memorial donations may be sent to St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or Seton Catholic School, 385 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335. Arrangements are being handled by Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
