Barry Donald McClain

December 1, 1961 ~ December 31, 2024

Born in: Franklin, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Franklin, Pennsylvania

Barry Donald McClain, 63, of Franklin passed away on December 31, 2024 at UPMC Shadyside.

Born in Franklin on December 1, 1961 he was the son of the late Donald McClain and Connie (Bean) Sanner.

Barry was a 1980 graduate of Franklin High School.

Barry was always a member of the work force…from age 12 as a paperboy, to then working for various entities his entire adult life until falling ill this past Thanksgiving .

Since the age of 5 years old, when he rode his first dirt bike, Barry had a strong love for riding motorcycles. He was known to take his Harley on trips to places like the Finger Lakes. His greatest accomplishment on a road trip was riding to Lake George.

He was passionate about cars which created a close bond with his friend, Pat, who was always there to lend a hand when repairs were needed.

Barry also enjoyed trips to the Casino to test his luck. He would often be found walking the dogs to the beaver dam on Big Sandy and back, enjoying nature along the way. He added a thornless blackberry bush on his property that grew so fast that he was always giving away as many of the picked berries as he could so they wouldn’t go to waste.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Jamie Rybak and her husband, Mike, of Oil City; his nephews Colby and Casey Rybak of Oil City; his close friend Pat of Barkeyville, and his friend, Kay of Franklin.

Guests will be received on Tuesday, January 7th from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin. A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held immediately following at the funeral home at 5 pm with Pastor Matthew Blake, Sr., pastor of East Grove Church, officiating.

Barry will be laid to rest at Graham Cemetery.

  1. I wish I could post the video I have, of me hiding around the corner and scaring the heck out of Barry…Or all of the funny pictures I took that he always yelled about. He would leave his trunk open, and I’d go out and leave random items in it 😂 never once did he complain that we were always peanking him. Barry was truly one of a kind. The only person able to mind his business and not pry, but still offer kind words of wisdom if he could tell you needed it. I always said-He was like the fun uncle that everyone undoubtedly has in their family. It wasn’t a good work day if Barry wasn’t on the clock 🙁 rest in peace

  2. As I get the pleasure of saying that I got to work with Barry for about 8 years at TA. It will never seem like it was long enough. The amazing times we had working together will always be treasured. The wild stories about what he found in the parking lot to the interesting reasons for calling off, nothing will ever compare to how Great he truly was. A truly reliable co-worker. I will never forget when he got his Cadillac and he added the hood scope and custom vinyls. Every time he updated it, he took me out to check it out. He made going to work well worth going no matter what was going on. Fly high, my friend. Even though I have barely had a dry eye when I think about you and your passing. I am relieved that you are no longer suffering. Until we meet again on the bright side of the gates.

  3. Barry was such a great guy. Always willing to lend a hand or listen to a problem. He was always carrying a pipe around. He always had the funniest stories to tell about his friends or fellow employees. Fly high Barry and God speed.

  4. Barry was such a nice guy. I had the privilege of working with him for the last 8ish years, and there was never a dull moment when Barry was working. He would come see me every morning and tell me how nice I looked today, even on the days when we both knew that wasn’t true. That’s just how he was, always thinking of others. I will miss seeing him with his pipe, laughing with him about crazy things we talked about, and cracking (not so appropriate) jokes together!
Rest in peace Barry, until I see you again!!! ❤️🙏
