Amelia A. Birch, 90, of Meadville, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Meadville Medical Center. She was born in Pittsburgh on November 18, 1919, to the late F. H. and Armelia Froelicher. She graduated from Langley High School in Pittsburgh in 1937. Better known to her friends as “Babe,” she soon moved to Conneaut Lake area as a teenager to live with two aunts. Babe worked as a bookkeeper in the family aluminum awning business operated by her husband, James W. Birch, Sr. She also worked briefly at D & K store in Meadville Mall. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her friends. The last nine months she enjoyed the wonderful care given at Wesbury Retirement Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, who passed away on December 25, 1978. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Paul Froelicher and Cy Froelicher, and infant twin brothers. She is survived by her two sons, James W. Birch, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Meadville and Charles Birch and his wife, Jenley, of Butler, PA. Babe also had three grandchildren: Julie Kerstetter (Rick), Jennifer Bowlin (Matthew), and Carrie Birch, as well as five step-grandchildren: Rich Trypus, Dana Osborne (Mark), Jaime McKenzie (Jason), Gregory Hollack (Jessica), and Jeffrey Hollack (Samantha). Her family also included three great grandchildren: Tonya, Tyler, and Jackson, and seven step-great grandchildren: Richie, Robbie, Kristin, Grant, Nathan, Ella, and Reagan. Viewing will be at the Roofner-Collins Funeral Home on Thursday, September 30, 2010, from 6:30 " 7:30 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 1, 2010 with Father Raymond Gramata as celebrant.
