Albert Donald Metheney, 76, of Meadville, passed away, January 11, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. He was born April 18, 1937 in Iveydale, West Virginia, a son of Hans Metheney and Dora Butler Metheney. He married Deloris "Dee" Craig on February 23, 1962. In his earlier years he was employed with Avtex Fibers until their closing he subsequently was employed with the US Postal Service which he retired from in 2013. Albert was a US Army Veteran serving his county during the Korean Conflict and was wounded in battle. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 in Meadville and American Legion Post 205 in Saegertown. In addition to his loving wife, Dee of nearly 52 years; Albert is survived by two sons, Doug Metheney and his wife Sharon of Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania and Dennis Metheney of Meadville; five grandchildren, Madelynne, Ali, Kayli, Mary, and Jacob Metheney; a great grandson, Micah; two sisters, Sandy Hinds and her husband Frankie of Grove City and Sherry Canane and her husband Bill of Grove City; three brothers, William Metheney of Grove City, Richard Metheny and his wife Faye of Volant, and David J. Metheney and his wife Doreen of Grove City. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patty Foust; and a brother, Larry Metheney. Family and friends are welcome to call on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 7:00pm with Pastor Tim DeTal of Watson Run Church of God, officiating. Military honors will be held at the funeral home following the funeral service being preformed by VFW Post 2006 Color Guard.   3. I am heartbroken to her of Al’s passing. Po always looked forward to seeing him when he delivered the mail at Armstrong. He was always funny, kind and oh so charming! He continued to come see us and we cherished his visits as much as we cherished our friendship with him. He will forever be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as this time of sorrow.

  6. I worked with Al at the post office for many years. He was a terrific co worker and person.He always had plenty of jokes to make you laugh. He will be greatly missed.

  7. To Al’s Family – Sorry for the loss of your loved one. We enjoyed being with him and talking about Pittsburgh. It is a small world but now the world is at a loss because of Al’s passing. We will miss him at Post 111. He had a way of making us laugh and feeling good when he was there. He was such a kind and gentle person and we are sure we will all get together again in heaven.
