Margie J. Best

April 30, 1934 ~ March 20, 2025

Born in: Sutton, West Virginia
Resided in: Franklin, Pennsylvania

Margie Jane Best, 90, of Franklin passed away at home with her family at her side on March 20, 2025.

Born on April 30, 1934 in Sutton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Orpha and Delpha (Jenkins) Gross.

On December 27, 1952, she married Herbert L. Best, Jr. and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2010.

She was an EKG technician for many years at the Oil City Hospital.

Margie had a wicked sense of humor and loved to pick on the guys, especially her brothers and brother-in-law. She was a great cake maker and decorator, making exquisite wedding cakes were her favorite. She enjoyed making quilts to anyone who wanted one. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing and camping with her husband.

She liked to garden and loved all types of flowers. She enjoyed watching the birds on her bird feeder. Most of all though, she enjoyed spoiling her great-granddaughter, Rhea. Within the last year, she went on vacation to Mexico to visit both coast lines.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, David J. Best and his wife, Robbin, of North Lewisburg, Oh, Linda Smith of Franklin, and Cindy L. Best and her companion Randy Spence of Titusville; her grandchildren Sharon Pine and her husband, Rob, Jacquelyn Roddy, Travis A. Young and his companion, Laken Vincent, David Eric Best and his wife, Tiffany, Matthew Best and his companion, Brittany McClain, and Zachary Best and his wife, Julia Oesch; her great grandchildren Abigail Sholes, Piper Pine, Michael Struthers, Makayla Struthers, Rhea Young, Andrea Struthers, Lily Best, Herbert Best, and Lewis Best-Oesch. She is further survived by her siblings Mary Gross, Jimmy Gross, Johnnie Gross, Olive Fishbaugh, Louise Cline, Kenneth Gross and Jerry Gross, all of West Virginia.

In addition to her parents and her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Hazel and Mildred; two infant siblings; and her son-in-law David Smith.

Guests will be received at the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 1 pm to 4 pm with funeral services for Margie being held the same day at the funeral home at 4 pm with Chaplain William Cope, Aseracare Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Fly high Margie, you will be so missed. I’ve enjoyed being your hairdresser and friend the last 3 and a 1/2 years. Your personality and love has always been contagious and it was a joy to have known you!

  2. Oh Margie you were always knew how to get a giggle out of me. Give Uncle June a hug and when you see Daddy, give him an extra hug and I’ll see you all again one day until then fly high!

    • I was Margie and cousin Junior’s “ring bear” (that’s what I thought I was at age six) at their wedding. One of the nicest people I’ve ever known. I didn’t get to see her much since I’ve grown up and no longer live in the area, but when I did, there was always a warm welcome. She will be missed.

  3. We are so sorry for your loss. You are in out thoughts and prayers. She was a wonderful lady!

    • Mathew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
      Margie will be missed.

  4. David, Linda, and Cindy and families, I was blessed to have known your mom. May your memories bring you all comfort in the days ahead. Prayers!

  5. Aunt Margie was a wonderful lady with artistic talent and quick wit. She always told great stories and I loved hearing her reminisce about when she was a kid. I will miss you, Aunt Margie. I know you will be glad to see Grandma, Pap, and Junior. Until we meet again…
