Born in: Weeds Corners, Pennsylvania

James (Jim) E. Turner, Sr., age 85 of Wattsburg, passed away March 10, 2022 at Corry Manor. He was born April 2, 1936 at Weeds Corners, Greene Township, PA to Paul S. Turner and LaVerta Henck Turner. Jim was a 1954 graduate of Union City High School. After graduation, Jim worked in banking for 23 years where he met his wife, Alice More Turner. He spent the last years of his banking career as manager of the Wattsburg branch of Pennbank. He took over the More family farm after the death of his father-in-law and worked both on the farm and at Pennbank until he retired from banking in 1980. After retiring from the bank, Jim spent another 20 years farming with his family on their 80 acre dairy farm outside of Wattsburg. Jim was a member of the Union City Presbyterian Church, and looked forward to his retirement from full-time farming so he could attend regularly. After retirement, he was also an active member of the Brokenstraw Antique Tractor Club. He owned both a 1947 Case VAC and later a 1954 Farmall Super C tractor that won many tractor pulls. The Case tractor was a Father’s Day gift from his children, and it brought them such joy to see him take home a trophy. Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brothers George, Marvin, and Paul Jr.; and his sisters Lucille Hinkler and Carole Lee. In addition to his wife of 63 years, Alice, Jim is survived by his sons James Jr. (Lois), Craig (Tara), Randy (Jennifer) and a daughter Julie (Patrick) Phelps. He is survived by four grandchildren Michelle, David (Kylee), Bradley, Danielle and one great-grandson Luke James Turner. He is also survived by a sister Marjorie Hall (Ralph), a sister-in-law Jennie Turner and many dear nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Wattsburg Hose Company, PO Box 186, 14415 Main St., Wattsburg, PA 16442 or the Union City Presbyterian Church.
