William Sneede "Sonny" Mays , 29, of Franklin, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, June 9.Born February 7, 1988 in Franklin, he was the son of Richard and Kim Barickman Mays. Mr. Mays was in the Army National Guard who served a tour in Iraq. During his service, he was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with the Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Driver and Mechanic Badge.Sonny was on the Board of Directors at the VFW Jesse Greer Post 1835 and a member of the Franklin Moose Lodge # 83.His son, James, was the center of his life. Sonney was a salesman for Hovis Auto Parts and drove school bus for Lepley Bus Service. He also enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle and working on his cars.In addition to his parents, Sonny is survived by his son, James Mays of Franklin; his sisters Amy Leaphart and her husband, Sam, of Columbia, SC and Heather Baker and her husband, Ronald, of Franklin; his brother, Thomas R. Mays of Pittsburgh; his maternal grandparents, Ann Smith and her husband, William, of Franklin and Clifford Barickman of Butler; his great grandfather, Ralph Foster of Franklin. He is further survived by his nieces Briana Senn and her husband, Blake, of Newberry, SC and Fiona Mays of Greenwood, SC; his nephews Samuel Leaphart of Columbia, SC, Chad Leaphart of Columbia, SC, Zachery Mays of Pittsburgh and twins Miles and Maxx Baker both of Franklin and his great nieces Autumn Senn, Blaine Mays and his great nephew Max Senn all of Newberry, SC.He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Sneede and Joan Mays and his aunt, Patty Mays.Family and friends of Sonny will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Wednesday, June 14 from 3 - 6 pm with funeral services to follow at 6:30 pm with Rev. Mark Fultz, pastor of Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor GuardInterment will be in the Cemetery of the Alleghenies.Sonny's family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the V.E.T.S.   15. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. During difficult times such as this one, we don’t always know what to say or do, but our loving Father and Creator does. Please find the help and comfort you all need to get through this difficult time from ” the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3,4). One day God promises to do away with death forever (Revelation 21:4).

  16. Man to think of Sonnys passing…my deepest condolences to the family…I know so many of them and my heart aches knowing Sonny is gone. We will see him again but it was suppose to be us before him.
