William (Bill) Edward Tarr, 85, of Rocky Grove, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9th, 2018 at 7:16 a.m. at UPMC NW in Seneca.Born September 3, 1932 in Oil City, Bill was the son of the late Sherman M. and Gertrude L. Becker Tarr. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.He was married by the Rev. B.E. Coleman, to the former Doris Bowen on November 27, 1954, and she preceded him in death on February 12, 2008. Mr. Tarr retired from Franklin Steel in 1989 after working as a crane operator for more than 34 years. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army from September 5, 1950 until August 11, 1952. Mr. Tarr was a member of Donation Hill Bible Church and a life member of Jesse Greer Post #1835. He enjoyed going to estate auctions, yard sales and flea markets. While living on Patchel Run Road, he was well known in the area for having large garage sales of his own. He was an avid NASCAR fan and never missed a race on TV. He was the owner of a race car which was driven by his friend, Andy Phillips, at TriCity and Lernerville for many years. Bill was very proud of the fact that he designed and built his first home. He enjoyed spending the winters with his wife, Doris, in Silver Springs, FL. In their earlier years of marriage, they enjoyed motorcycle riding and boating in local lakes. Mr. Tarr is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; his sisters-in-law, Joyce Tarr of Guys Mills, and Vivian Tarr, Dorothy Tarr, and JoAnn Tarr, all of Franklin; and his brother-in-law, Tracy Bowen, of Delaware.In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by his 7 brothers, Wallace Tarr, Robert Tarr, Richard Tarr, Donald Tarr, Clarence Tarr, Sherman Tarr, and Homer Tarr; and his 3 sisters, Francis Reiser, Betty Fry, and Janet Cochran.Friends and family will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Thursday, April 12th from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, April 13th at 11:oo a.m. with Rev. Glenn Walker, pastor of the Donation Hill Bible Church, officiating.Interment will be in Cooperstown Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the V.E.T.S. I worked with Bill for many years at Franklin Steel. He was the craneman and I the chain hooker. He was a good man to most everyone. He will be missed.Condolences.
