William "Bill" Allen Buttray, 53, of Meadville, passed away, Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 16, 1960 in Meadville, a son of Karl D. Buttray and Pauline D. Slayton. He had attended Meadville Area High School and the Crawford County Vocational School. William had been a self-employed independent contractor working for Robert Rickert, Dan Hoke, Gary Wagner, Ken Scott, and Schultz Heavy Equipment Transport. He enjoyed raising fish, woodworking, gardening, and loved taking time to help others. William was a jack of all trades with an interest in many different things. He is survived by his father, Karl D. Buttray, Sr. of Meadville; two sons, Bryen and Kevin Buttray; two sisters, Karla D. Buttray of Meadville and NancyJo Mattocks of Meadville; a brother, Karl D. Buttray, Jr. and his wife Laura of Meadville; a step-sister, Crystal Schaefer and her husband Kerry of Linesville; three step-brothers, Jeffery Smith and his wife Mary of Linesville, Michael Smith of Meadville, and Douglas Smith and his wife Karen of Conneaut Lake; and several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline D. Johnston; a nephew, Roman James Buttray; his step-mother, Mary Etta Buttray; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Buttray, Sr.; and numerous aunts and uncles. Family and friends are welcome to call on Tuesday, April 15th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 8:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Smith of First Christian Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in William's memory to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
