Donald A. Leggett, of Meadville, passed away, March 19, 2013 followed by his loving wife, Shirley Prenatt Leggett on March 11, 2024. They were married on November 27, 1948. Donald was born on August 7, 1926 in Garrettsville, Ohio, a son of Desper Leggett and Leah Phillips Leggett. Shirley was born on September 8, 1929 in Meadville, a daughter of Wilfred Prenatt and Marie Whistler Prenatt. Donald was a graduate of Meadville High School and went on to serve his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Herald of the Morning. When returning from war he went on to work for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad for eight years followed by being employed by the Department of Transportation. He retired as Assistant District Construction Engineer. Shirley was a graduate of Saint Agatha High School and went on to become a licensed Beautician. She was employed for several years with Saint Agatha Church and Saint Brigid Church as a Bookkeeper. Both were active members of Saint Agatha Roman Catholic Church with Donald singing 20 years in the choir and Shirley being a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Donald was a past president of Toastmasters, and one year won best of show at the Crawford County Fair for wine making. He was also an avid gardener raising beautiful flowers and vegetables. Shirley loved cooking, knitting, crocheting, but most of all she enjoyed being around people as well as being a wife and mother. They are survived by a daughter, Diana (Timothy) of Meadville; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Demetrios) Pappas; Donny Leggett ; and Lauren (Cameron) Truelock; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a nephew, John P. Leggett III. Both were preceded in death by their parents' and a son, Alan Leggett. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at 11:00 am at The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, Saint Agatha, 353 Pine Street, Meadville with Father Jeffrey Lucas as celebrant. Burial will follow at Saint Hippolyte Cemetery, Frenchtown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Women's Services, Inc., 204 Spring Street, Meadville, Pennsylvania 16335.
