Shirley A. Diefenderfer

Shirley A. Diefenderfer, 80, of Franklin, passed away, Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at the Caring Place. She was born on September 11, 1943 in Franklin, a daughter of Daniel Umstead, Sr., and Dorothy Caldwell Umstead. She married Ray G. Diefenderfer on August 15, 1970, he preceded her in death. She enjoyed bingo at the Franklin VFW, trips to the casino, fishing, camping, and the outdoors. Shirley was a co-owner of R-Bar in Sharon. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Robert L. Fout and his wife, Terri, of Greenville, PA, and James E. Gurnee and his wife, Susan, of Hubbard, OH. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Daniel, Charles, and Clarence Umstead; sisters, Betty Manross, Sara Meals, Mary Bailey, Dorothy Longwell, Joan Boyles, Kay Umstead, and Barbara Umstead. Family and friends are welcome to call on Thursday, January 11th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12th at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Jonathan Bell, officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin.
