Ruth A. Colwell

Ruth A. Colwell, 77, of Dale Avenue, Franklin, passed away at 10:30 a.m. at her residence, Friday morning, November 18, 2011. Born December 31, 1933, in Franklin, Ruth was the daughter of the late Harold L. and Harriett A. Powell Lawson. She was married to William James Colwell in 1953 and he preceded her in death. Ruth was retired from Franklin Hospital, where she worked as a custodian for more than 18 years. Mrs. Colwell was a member of the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church, and she committed her life to the Lord. Ruth enjoyed playing Bingo, embroidering and playing poker. She most of all enjoyed the times she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Colwell is survived by her sons, Raymond Parker Lawson and his wife, Patricia, of Roaming Shores, Ohio, James William Colwell and his fiancee, Andrea Carson of Franklin, and DeWayne Edward Colwell of Cooperstown. She is also survived by her brothers, Clarence Lawson, of Sugar Valley Lodge, Harry G. Lawson and his wife, Diane, of Titusville, and Robert Lawson and his wife, Marlene, of Franklin. Ruth is additionally survived by her daughter-in-law Leona Colwell of Cooperstown, several grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Colwell was preceded in death by her son, John (Hawkeye) Colwell; her daughter, Ruthie A. Colwell; her brothers, James, Harold, and Hugh Lawson; her sister, Shirley Ann Miller; her grandson, Eric Colwell; and her great-granddaughter, Cheyanne Colwell. Family and friends of Mrs. Colwell will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 9-11 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home following visitation on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Lewis of the Mount Carmel Tabernacle officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, PA Division, Inc., P.O. I am so sorry for your loss..Ruth was a great person. When I lived in Franklin I always enjoyed seeing her and talking with her. She will be greatly missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and comfort you doing this time.
