On December 8, 1979, he married the former Mary Whitmer who survives.
Robert retired after almost 38 years of working as a press operator and later a tow motor operator at what started as Franklin Steel, now known as Franklin Industries and was known as a hard worker during those years.
He enjoyed drinking his favorite carbonated alcoholic beverage and playing all sorts of games from electronic ones on his phone to the games in the newspaper. He liked to keep himself sharp by doing cryptoquotes, crosswords, sudoko, and whatever games would keep him thinking.
After he retired, he enjoyed going for rides with Mary to look for deer and enjoy the scenery. He also liked to travel to visit family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory along with his wife of almost 45 years are his children Clifford Spencer and his wife, Billie, of Franklin, Angel Spencer of Franklin, Kimberly Smith of Franklin; his step-son Daniel Whitmer and his wife, Pam, of Oil City; his 11 grandchildren; his 6 great-grandchildren and one great-grand baby on the way. He is further survived by his siblings Theodore Spencer, Jr. and his wife, Pearl, of Jackson Center, Jean Lindsey and her husband, Mike, of Utica, and Judy Coast and her husband, Don, of Jackson Center.
