Richard B. Mong, Sr., 83, of Franklin, passed away on Monday, July 28th at 9:33 a.m. at UPMC-Hamot in Erie, as a result of an accident, which took place on July 12th.Born September 4, 1930 in Franklin, Dick was the son of the late Joseph Byron and Emma Lou Berringer Mong. He married the former Shirley Jolly on April 14, 1956, and she survives.Dick was a Peacetime Veteran having served with the US Marine Corp. from June 1947 to June 1950. He retired in 1985 from C.P.T., where he worked as a Quality Control Inspector. Dick was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He loved flying and received his pilot's license at age 69, and would fly anywhere at any given time. He could often be found at the airport, "hanging out" with his buddies, Mel Ellis, Richard Smith, Ed Frye, Jerry Ziegler, Denny Delucia, Tom Brennan, and all his other airport buddies.Dick enjoyed working on motors of any kind and sitting on his porch. He especially cherished the times he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.In addition to his wife, Dick, is survived by his son, Richard B. Mong, Jr., and his wife, Vicki, of Polk; and his daughters, Michelle L. Mong of Franklin, Marcia S. Mong of Oil City, Rebecca L. Kistler of Titusville, and Kimberly A. Mong of Franklin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Holly M. Mong and Andrew R. Mong of Oil City, Christopher M. Mong of Franklin, Tyler B. Mong of Cranberry, and Jarrett D. Mong of Polk; his great-grandchildren, Noah B. Mong of Cranberry and Skylar R. Mong of Franklin; his sister, Josephine L. Perrine of Jersey City, New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick is additionally survived by his two dogs, "Cooper" and "Feebee".In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Harry Mong; and his sisters, June Lynde and Betty Jane Mong.Family and friend of Dick will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Thursday, July 31st from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. following visitation. Military honors will be accorded by the local V.E.T.S. Dick and I spent a lot of time together while we both were getting our pilot licenses, and became great friends, I moved from the area but kept in touch with Dick, we enjoyed going to breakfast at Kings. I just want to tell the family he was a great guy and enjoyed his family. Jim Frazer
