Richard A Holmes

Richard "Dick" A. Holmes, 98, of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at The Collins House in FranklinBorn September 13, 1920 in Franklin, Richard was the son of the late Richard J. and Sarah (Rodgers) Holmes. He married the former Maxine E. Sechler, of Franklin, on November 4, 1942; she preceded him in death on November 3, 2016.He was employed by Joy Manufacturing as a Laborer and Group Leader for 41 years until his retirement in 1985.Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he was Honorably Discharged as a Lieutenant. He served numerous locations overseas.While they were both still living, Richard and his wife, Maxine, loved to travel, especially all over the 50 States and overseas. He also was an avid gardener, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and his special beagles.Left to cherish Richard's memory is his son, Gary R. Holmes of Franklin; his daughter, Ellen L. Robbins and her husband, Richard, of Greenville; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Holmes, of Princeton, WV, his grandchildren, Laura Curl and her husband, Chad, of Cedar Rapid, Iowa, Erin Conley and her husband, Thomas, of Saxonburg, Jonathan Holmes and his wife, MaVilla "Maria", of Roanoke, VA, and James Holmes of Princeton, WV; and his two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Sarah Conley, both of Saxonburg.In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Robert D. Holmes; his brother, Dr. Robert B. Holmes and his wife, Martha.As per Richard's wishes, there will no visitation.
