It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond “Ray” Albert Hasty, on May 28, 2025 at UPMC Children’s Hospital, who departed this life, in the arms of his loving parents, due to his Menkes disease which is a rare disorder caused by mutations that lead to a copper metabolic issue resulting in a range of symptoms including neurological issues, skeletal problems, and brittle hair.
Born in Erie, PA on February 29, 2016, he was the son of Nathan and Rozanna (Brand) Hasty of Franklin.
Raymond was a child of simple joys who found happiness in nature shows, the melodies of music, and the loving camaraderie of those closest to him. He loved being visited by family. He had a playful spirit, often delighting friends and family by playing “opossum,” pretending to be asleep. He got to travel to Alaska to visit family, creating cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, left to cherish his memory are his sisters Jamie, Katlynn, and Chloe; his great grandmother Beverly Hasty of Titusville, PA; his grandparents Ray Brand and his wife, Iva, of Ketchikan, AK, Michelle Moon and her husband, Blair, of Salt Lake City, UT, Richard Hasty, Sr. of Belle Vernon, PA, and Sheila Wiley of Franklin, PA; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
For 9 great years he was taken care of by his nurses, Syed and Stephanie, and his parents, as they played a big role in his well being and will be forever in their hearts. Raymond didn’t have a voice but he had will power and was a fighter, a survivor, resilient, and was stronger than his disease that took him. For that, they are grateful to have cared for him and the family appreciates every ounce of caring and love poured into their lives over him. His nurses were there till the very end.
Ray was preceded in death by his best friend and furry companion, Desil; his great grandfather, Raymond A. Hasty; his grandparents Tom and Diane Eckonen and Linda Sage-Guthrie; his aunt Jen Weagraff; his close cousin Toni Johnson; and a close family friend Todd Doyle.
Arrangements are under the care of the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. and a Celebration of Ray’s Life will be announced at a later date.
Raymond will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA 16323 to help with funeral expenses.
