It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phillip Michael “Mike” Higby, 69, of Canadohta Lake, who left us on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born on September 26, 1956, in Meadville, PA, to Harold and Nancy (Dingman) Higby.
A proud graduate of Union City High School, Mike dedicated his life to real estate, thriving as a realtor and also owning Higby’s Campground. He was a man of many talents, an accomplished entrepreneur, and someone who loved to share his wisdom with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
A kind and gentle soul, Mike had a love for all animals and was known for his warm heart. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rece Marie Clabbatz Higby, as well as his son, Damion Higby his wife, Billie Jo, along with their children Cole, Lily, and Raelyn. He is also survived by his daughter, RyAnne Keister, her husband, Randy, and grandchildren Dylan and JayAnne. Mike’s family also includes stepson Justin Anderson and his wife Kristy, along with grandchildren Allie and Maya, and stepdaughter Elizabeth Golembiewski, her husband Doug, and granddaughter Parker Leigh.
He leaves behind his parents, Harold and Nancy Higby, his brother, James Mark Higby, and his mother-in-law, Nancy Clabbatz. He will be missed by his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Barb Volk, Mary Jo and Trevor Hartland, Ben and Cheryl Clabbatz, Marsha Stanbro and Ron Mack, Gerald and Amy Clabbatz, Carla Malek, and James and Christine McWilliams, in addition to many cherished nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Katherine and Phillip Dingman, and Floyd and Bessie Higby; his aunt, Karen Dingman; his brother, John Matthew Higby; his former wife, LuAnne Rae McWilliams; his in-laws, Clair and Janet McWilliams; and brother-in-laws Sherman Stanbro, Hank Malek, John Volk, Terry Clark, and Jerry Berkhouse; along with his sister, Suzanne Berkhouse.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held September 26, 2026 at RyAnne and Randy’s home, 36678 Lake Road, Union City.
The family would like to give a special thanks to LECOM Health, Dr. Hansen, Dr. Lin, Dr. Carter, VNA Hospice, and Cleveland Clinic for the care and compassion not only given to Mike but to the family as well.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Bloomfield Township Volunteer Fire Department or Canadohta Lake Historical Society.
