Union City – Michael D. Kafferlin, 59, of Union City, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 29, 2018. He was born on July 28, 1959 in Corry, a son of P. David “Mike” Kafferlin and Sue Millspaw Kafferlin. He married Kathy M. Swanson on November 2, 1990, she survives.
He was a 1977 graduate of Union City High School, a United States Army National Guard Decorated Sargent, who served from 1985 to 1990, as a Nuclear Biological Weapon Specialist, and a co-owner of Kafferlin’s Sales and Service.
Mike was a member of the Union City Country Club and the NRA. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, shooting, woodworking, camping, dogs and especially spending time with his family and granddaughter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Kathy of Union City; his mother, Sue of Union City; a daughter, Lydia Kafferlin of California; three sons, Paul Kafferlin and his wife, Beth of Waterford, Nick Swanson of Cambridge Springs, and Karl Kafferlin of Union City; a granddaughter, Haleigh Kafferlin of Waterford; two brothers, Mark Kafferlin and his wife, Lori of Waterford, and Greg Kafferlin and his wife, Sandy of Cambridge Springs.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, and his in-laws, James and Ina Mae Swanson all of Union City.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 42 E. High Street, Union City with Pastor Lea A. Guiney, officiating.

I will miss Mike. He was helpful and fun to chat with. That said, he was a sight when he got exasperated.
It is never easy to lose a loved one and my condolences to the family. It has been years since I last saw Mike. He had a big personality and lived life to the fullest. RIP fellow classmate
