Maris Ann (Goodwill) Hanby
Mother, wife, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, adventurer. Maris departed this Earth on March 1 st , 2022
to be reunited with her late husband Norman Hanby and her parents Eugene and Hazel Goodwill along
with numerous other family members who went before her. Maris was born December 4 th , 1938 on her
parent’s Wedding anniversary. She is survived by her children Bonnie (Sam) Walker, Trent (Cheryl)
Glover, Bryan (Barbra) Glover and Eric (Hope) Glover, grandchildren Jacob, Caitlann, Trent Jr, Melissa,
Travis, Brandon and Maryah and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Candace
(William) Minor, brother Carl (Monica) Goodwill and Brother in Law James Reeb, numerous nephews
and great nieces, great nephews and friends.
Maris was a lifelong resident of Union City having been born in the original Union City Hospital. She
graduated from Union City High School in what was the first class from the “new” High School. Maris
worked at the Shriner’s Hospital in Erie, PA in the Iron Lung Unit before coming back to Union City
Hospital and over the years worked as a Nurse’s Aide, ER tech, OR tech and Unit Secretary in the
Hospital “up the hill”. Maris also worked for the city as a dispatcher for EMS, Fire and Police for Union
City and the surrounding area where she met her husband Norm. Eventually she went to work for
Emergicare as a dispatcher. She also worked for Corry Memorial Hospital in the Cafeteria before
deciding to retire. She served as the Judge of Elections for her Ward in Union City for many years. She
taught craft lessons to the Folks at Manly Heights for years as well as the Senior Center where she also
served on the Board. Her last civic involvement was with the Union City Historical Society and Museum
where she diligently worked to improve not only the museum but the physical building and she also
served as President for several years. She enjoyed the history there and working with the professionals
associated with the Museum.
Maris and Norm loved to travel and did so often traveling as far away as upper Canada and North
Carolina. After he passed in 1998 Maris continued to travel. She went to Ireland, Scotland, England,
Wales, Hawaii and Greece both alone and with her Mother until she was unable to travel anymore. By
far the greatest trips were with her sisters Virginia Reeb and Candy Minor to Canada. Maris valued
education and sought to continue to learn about history, science and the world. She read a lot and was
an avid crafter and crocheted many things that she sold or gave to friends/family. She loved to paint
ceramics and make cards, scrapbook. She loved working in the earth and planted many flower beds and
tended to her roses all her life until she could no longer do it.
A memorial service will be held on May 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at Union City Fire Department, 50 Second Avenue, Union City. Donations in her name to the Union City Museum in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.

Maris was a one of a kind adventurous woman! I work with her for years at Union City Hospital and enjoyed her stories! She was just plain fun! My thoughts and prayers go to her family. Joan Tarbell Sabol
