Judith "Judy" Anne Himes, 82, of Big Run, PA passed away in her daughter's home in Emlenton on May 7, 2018 surrounded by her family.Born on June 29, 1935 in Brockway, PA, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Elijah and Lula Amelia (McMinn) Whelpley.On August 10, 1957, she married the love of her life, Dennis Wayne Himes who preceded her in death on December 8, 2016. Judy was a retired Home Economics teacher from Punxsutawney Area High School and was still getting together with fellow teachers for luncheons.Judy was a very active member of the Punxsutawney First United Methodist Church and the Women's Circle in the church. She was a past Eastern Star member and a past Worthy Matron of the Rainbow Girls. She looked forward every month to get together with her Brockway High School classmates to eat and reminisce. She loved her flower gardens, bells and birdhouses, but most of all, she loved her family. She spent many years attending her grandchildren's many school activities and enjoyed spending the holidays and birthdays with all of her family. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Scott D. Himes and his wife, Diane, of Jeanette, PA and Beth Anne Fisher of Emlenton; her grandchildren, Emily A. Stump of Indianapolis, IN, Rebecca J. Fletcher and her husband, Blaine, of Big Run, PA, Laura N. Stump and her boyfriend, Chad Anderson, of Wexford, PA, Kenneth S. Himes of Jeannette, PA and her grandpup, Puffin. She is also survived by her brothers, Chester C. Whelpley and his wife, Sherry, of Beaver Falls, PA and Jerry Whelpley; her sister, Lois J. Dress of San Francisco, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who she loved all dearly.In addition to her parents and husband, Judy was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred and William Whelpley.Friends and family will be received at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, PA on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and at the Punxsutawney First United Methodist Church, on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Funeral services for Judy will be held at the church following visitation on Thursday morning with Reverend Paul Ritchey, Pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery, Brockway, PA.The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Judy's name to the Punxsutawney First United Methodist Church, 301 West Mahoning Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767 or to the Venango Visiting Nurses Foundation, 491 Allegheny Blvd, Franklin, PA 16323.To send cards, flowers, online condolences or for more information, family and friends are invited to visit www.gardinierfuneralhome.com.The family has entrusted the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, with Judy's arrangements.
