Janine Garcia Maziarz

March 28, 1939 ~ July 31, 2019
Janine Garcia Maziarz (80) from Meadville, PA passed away peacefully on July 31, 2019 while vacationing in Ontario, Canada with her beloved husband Ronald Maziarz and other family members.
Janine was born in Kenitra, Morocco as the fourth of five daughters of Joseph and Josephine Garcia. Morocco was a French territory at the time during colonization. She attended a French boarding school during her high school years and lived away from home. Janine lost her father who died at age 47 in 1956 and her mother at age 92 in 2003. Janine was only 16 at the time of her father’s passing – yet she persevered and became immersed in many different endeavors including her academics, the arts and various sports.
Janine first married at age 20 to John H. Honse Jr, an officer in the United States Marine Corp stationed in Morocco. She moved to the US where she lived for 15 years in Butler, PA. Janine quickly adapted to US culture and at the same time embraced her native culture which was quite diverse during that time. During those years she had two sons. Her presence became well known and earned the trust and admiration of many. Janine was quite the debutante during her youth where she refined her interest in fashion and the arts and modeled locally for a brief time. She moved to nearby Slippery Rock, PA for 5 years and went on to study at Slippery Rock State College. Janine would earn a BS in secondary education majoring in French and Spanish graduating Magna Cum Laude while in her 30s. She then was hired by Crawford County School District in Meadville where she taught French and Spanish for 21 years from 1978 to 2001.
Ron and Janine were married in 1981, and moved to San Diego where they lived for two years. The family then returned to Meadville where Janine lived the remaining years of her life with the exception of spending several winter months in Clearwater, FL since 2010. Ron and Janine shared much with one another over the years, including raising children, attending family events, helping others, traveling, gardening, cooking, decorating and various other activities.
Janine was the matriarch of the family as Ron’s wife, mother and grandmother to many. Janine will always be revered and be remembered for her innate qualities, always the optimist, loving and caring influence and her care-free laissez-faire nature. She enriched the lives of many and she’ll always be loved. Her influence had a profound impact on many including her children, grandchildren and students. Her memory will endure through her loved ones who carry on her love and joie de vivre.
She is survived by Ronald Maziarz, her beloved husband of 37 years, and her three sisters Christine Vaglio (Bourg-Saint-Maurice, France), Celestine Beaudet (Montpellier, France), and Juliette Glassburner (Florence, SC) as well as her three sons John and Gisele Honse (Sudbury, ON Canada), Joseph Honse and partner Coleen Kollinger (Mars, PA), Kevin and Aimee Maziarz (Conneaut Lake, PA) and daughter Lisa and Frank Moreno (Bedford, NH). Janine’s grandchildren include Jessica, Emilie and Valerie Honse; Celeste, Caitlyn, Clint and Celene Kollinger; Jadyn and Lauryn Maziarz; Evan and Logan Carner; Brayden, Kayla, Claudia and Rachel Moreno. Janine had several other close relatives and extended family members including step children, nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law spanning Canada, France and the US.
In addition to Janine’s parents passing, she is predeceased by her younger sister, Arlette Garcia, who died at 2 ½ months from meningitis.
A celebration of Janine’s life will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M..
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association (444 Liberty Ave #1300 Pittsburgh, PA 15222, www.heart.org)

Lisa I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. I recently lost my dad and understand how difficult this time can be. I will never forget the 1st time I ate dinner at your house and your mom served cous cous- I’ve loved it ever since and think of you and her every time I eat it! Hold tight to the memories you have and know that heaven is a little more refined, polished and worldly now that she has arrived. Sending my love to you and your family, Phyllis Froncillo Wester (once things have settled I would love to hear from you pawest@hotmail.com)
