James F. "Fred" Updyke James F. "Fred" Upkyke, 69, of Meadow Road, Franklin, went to be with the Lord at 1:32 a.m., Monday, May 30, 2011 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born, December 26, 1941, in Franklin, Fred was the son of the late George F. and Silvia Irene Sayers Updyke. He was a US Army Reserve Veteran having served from March 12, 1961 until May 20, 1961. He was married February 17, 1962 to the former Janet Wareham and she survives. Fred worked in maintenance for the Franklin Area Schools. He also had worked for CPT in the valve department and was also self-employed. Fred was a member of the Congress Hill Church of God. He enjoyed hunting and horses and loved the outdoors and John Deere Tractors. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his son, James Updyke and his wife, Karin, of Franklin; and his grandchildren, Joshua Updyke and Devin Updyke of Franklin. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley A. Bean and her husband, Willie, of Polk, and Judy A. Aylesworth and her husband, Richard, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and his sister-in-law, Barb DeSantis and her husband, Joe, of Rootstown, Ohio. Fred is additionally survived by his favorite nephews, Tim Bean and his wife, Cindy, of Franklin, and Troy Stahlman of President; his favorite nieces, Malinda Roxberry of Polk, and Casey Wolenzier of Holland, Michigan; and his favorite great-nephews, Timmy Bean of Franklin, Tyler Bean and his wife, Natasha, of Pottstown, and Brandon Roxberry and Ryan Roxberry, of Polk. In addition to his parents, Fred, was preceded in death by his grandparents, and great-nephew, Cory Roxberry. Family and friends of Fred will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Thursday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, with Rev. Johnny Pennington, pastor of the Congress Hill Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in Graham Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Kirtland Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 108, Franklin PA 16323 and/or the Congress Hill Church of God New Building Fund, 406 Congress Hill Road, Franklin PA 16323.
