James (Jim) Brian Miller, 74, of Rocky Grove, passed away on Sunday, May 15th at 5:25 p.m. at the Caring Place in Franklin, following a battle with lung cancer.Born September 21, 1941 in Franklin, Jim was the son of the late James M. and Evelyn Walters Miller. He was a 1959 graduate of Rocky Grove High School and a graduate of the Oil City Business School. He was employed in the retail business for many years, including Printz's in Oil City and Franklin for over 30 years. He was also a manager/buyer of JMS Printz's, Inc. in the Cranberry Mall and Mod Com Appliances in Franklin. He was last employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Erie. Jim was a Vietnam-era US Army veteran, and was in the reserves for 7 years.On May 23, 1964, he married the former Peggy Lou Miller, who survives, by Rev. William McCray of the Galloway United Methodist Church. In his spare time, Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren and was a devoted grandfather. He enjoyed watching the Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers; and had attended many games, when his health permitted. Jim was a lifelong Republican and served as President of the Venango County Republican Committee from 1994 to 2004. He was a long-time member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Rocky Grove, where he served as choir director up until the time of his recent illness. He was a gifted singer and member of the former Coraliers and Venango Chorus. Jim also enjoyed many trips to FL to visit family members.Jim is survived by his wife, Peggy Lou; his son, Steven J. Miller, and his wife, Jennifer, of Oviedo, FL; four grandchildren: Kaitlyn Miller, and her fiance, Robert Macormac, of Titusville; Kayla Miller of New Kent, VA; Tyler Miller of Oviedo, FL; and Kris Miller II of Franklin. He is additionally survived by his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Heffernan, and her husband, Don, of Franklin; as well as several nieces and nephews.Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kris M. Miller, who passed away on February 20, 2015; and his sister, Patti M. Ziegler.The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Grace United Methodist Church of Rocky Grove, 350 Front Street, Franklin, PA 16323.The family would like to thank the staff of the Caring Place for the loving care provided to Jim during his stay.Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street in Franklin, on Wednesday, May 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.An additional visitation will be held at the Grace United Methodist Church, 350 Front Street in Rocky Grove, on Thursday, May 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held following visitation at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Atkinson, pastor of the church, officiating, and Rev. Mark Rusnak, AseraCare Spiritual Coordinator, assisting.
