Jack D. Whitman, 81, passed away following an extended medical condition on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at his home in Oakland Township.He was born on September 15, 1937 at his home near Franklin, Pa. He was the son of the late Ralph J. and Dorothy M. Blair Whitman.He was married to Mary D. Packer Whitman on September 7, 1957. They had 53 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on February 27, 2011.He worked in his early years for J & L Baker Sawmill. He spent most of his career working for Penelec in Oil City retiring in 1998 as a lineman foreman. Jack was a hard worker and loved this career. In his spare time he was a manager/coach for American Legion Baseball, team 2229. He was a member of the Reno Methodist Church, and later attended Grace United Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church of Franklin.Jack was a loving and generous father. He was always helpful to others and had a genuine concern for others. Jack loved and cherished his three grandchildren. His grandchildren saw his contentment, peace and joking ways. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he kindly gave them everything. Jack was devoted to his family.Jack is survived by his daughter, Ann Marie Schneider and her husband, Steven; three grandchildren: Breck L. Schneider, Colton J. Schneider, and Aubria J. Schneider; sisters-in-law: Donna Shipley and husband Robert of TN., Marilyn Packer of Grove City, and Betty Whitman of Edinboro and nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Whitman; his brother, James Whitman; and his brothers-in-law, William Quigley and William Packer.Family and friends may call from 1 to 3 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Reverend Joe Campasino, AsceraCare Chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.The Family would like to thank Venango VNA nurses and aids and AseraCare Hospice nurses and aids for all their wonderful care provided to Jack.
