Glenn L. Cook of Route 77 Spartansburg died at Titusville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on May 2, 2020 after an extended illness. Glenn was born at Corry Memorial Hospital on March 29, 1934 to the late Bert and Lelia Straite Cook. Glenn attended and graduated from Sparta High School class of 1952. While in High School Glenn was a talented athlete lettering in baseball and basketball. He played Varsity basketball as a freshman and at the age of 15 tried out as a catcher/outfielder for the St Louis Cardinals at a camp they held in Centerville, PA. He made the final cut but was too young for the Cardinals to even make an offer to him. Glenn married Eloise Ehrhart Cook on April 26, 1953. They would have celebrated 65 years of married life on April 26, 2018. Eloise preceded him in death on March 29, 2018. Over his life Glenn worked many jobs. He worked at Corry Jamestown Corp., at Raymond’s, at Platt’s Feed Mill, he drove a school bus route for many years for the Sparta Merged School District, he was a part time mail carrier for both Spartansburg and Union City Post Offices, and he was for most of his life a full time and/or part time farmer. In addition to the paying jobs he had he was also a coach for a teener league boys baseball team for several years and he also officiated boys JV basketball and girls Varsity basketball games for many years. But the jobs he truly excelled at were husband, father, Grampa, son, brother, uncle, in-law, and friend. Glenn will be missed by many people. Glenn is survived by his four children Lucy Cook, Lori (Tom) Stockton, Dale (Judy) Cook, and Glenda (Don) Patterson. He is survived by 6 grandchildren Mark, Keith, Chelsey, Cambria, Andrea, and Jennifer. Also, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Glenn is survived by one sister-in-law Opal Smith. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. It was with great sadness that we learned of Uncle Glenn’s passing. There are so many fond memories that we have of him, Aunt Eloise, and the family. We nieces and nephews always enjoyed visiting on the farm and checking out the kittens and calves. He drove the school bus on several field trips for my (Jessica’s) class during the time I taught at Spartansburg School. Once my class went on a field trip to the local feed mill during the time he was employed there. His stories and laughter will be missed.

With our love and prayers for the family during this difficult time,
    Jessica and Bill Kissell

  2. My husband and I both went to school, with both of your parents. We thought a lot o them. They were great folks. Praying for the family in the loss of your dad, he was a very special person. We always enjoyed visiting with both your dad and mom.
God Bless you all. Dillen/Alice Vroman

  3. Glenn was my supervisor for a few years at Corry Jamestown. He was great to work for. Always wanted to make sure we were doing well personally, that was as important as our job performance to him. What a great man. I know he’ll be missed.
    Marty Mitchell

  4. Glenn and Eloise were a part of the church In Spartansburg while I was growing up, I realize now, that they weren’t much older than me. They always made me feel welcomed and asked about my mom. As it turned out, there was mutual admiration, because mom thought they and their kids ( you) were special people. Kindness and gentleness seemed to characterize them. I know the world was better with Glenn in it. I pray our Lord is your comforter.

  5. Yes, I remember Glenn (and Eloise!) fondly. To me, they were always gracious people.,

  6. Lori and Family,
I am very sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. No doubt he will be missed. Thinking of all of you across the miles.

    Sincerely,
    Cheryl and Fred Weagraff

  7. What a great guy Glenn was—one of my favorite “gingers” ever. Good family man, great sense of humor, no-nonsense bus driver, excellent basketball ref.
The first photo is one my mom took at the 1999 Sparta Alumni banquet. The b&w is from the 1970 Sparta High School yearbook.
He will indeed be missed, as is Eloise.
