Emma Charlotte Hunsberger, a faithful follower and servant of Jesus Christ, entered into the presence of her heavenly Father on February 4, 2025 at 98 years, 19 days after the passing of her husband Rev. Claude E. Hunsberger. Formerly of DuBois, PA, she was residing in Beaver Falls, PA at her time of death.
Emma was the eighth child of nine born to Helmer and Olga Johnson of Clearfield,PA on April 13, 1926.
She grew up in Clearfield, graduating from Clearfield High School and working for a short time for Kurtz Bros.
Emma had a sweet servant’s heart and a deep rooted love for Jesus born out of a life of trusting Him moment by moment.
She travelled full time for many years as part of “The Johnson Sisters Trio”. They provided music for many churches, camps, tent meetings ,and youth crusades across the US and Canada. Emma, along with her sisters, sang and played various instruments. Emma was drawn to the piano at a very young age and played every day throughout most all of her life. She also played the organ, vibraharp, choral concert glasses, guitar, hawaiian steel guitar, accordion, and various types of bells. Even blessed with such musical abilities, she never wanted to be in the spotlight, only to make Jesus known.
On June 20, 1958 Emma married Claude Hunsberger who would soon become an ordained minister. Their union and love for each other was evident to all who met them throughout all of their life. Emma was an actively supportive partner to her husband in each of the churches they served. She played the piano/organ, directed the choir, led children’s choirs, taught Sunday school, was part of ladies’ groups, went on visitation, and served in many countless unseen ways.
Claude and Emma had five children and perhaps the clearest example of Emma’s heart was seen in her home. She created a place where anyone who entered was welcome and felt loved…A place with home made meals and baked goods a plenty. She worked tirelessly at household chores, but relationships always came before a spotless house. She was often found down on the floor in the middle of whatever the grandkids/great grandkids were playing.
In every act of service and love she was honoring Jesus. There was rarely a day when Jesus’ name was not heard in the home, whether through worship songs, prayer, or conversation. Emma walked with Him moment by moment and longed for everyone to know and love Him as she did.
Even at the end of life when her mind was failing her with dementia, she regularly would turn to Jesus and ask that He help her remember the things she should know.
Emma is survived by her children Tom (Kathy) Hunsberger of Union City PA, Steve(Darla) Hunsberger of DuBois PA, Brian (Monica) Hunsberger of DuBois PA, Betty (Dan) Muir of Beaver Falls PA, and Patti (John) Lemke of Lansing MI, as well as 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Betty, we are praying for you. I first learned of your parents long before I met you. I worked with your two aunts, Ruth and Dottie, when they were traveling with Mechley. They would often refer to your mother and how much they loved her. Praying the days ahead will bring you comfort and rest as you celebrate their lives and their love for Jesus.
