Durward W. Burress

Durward W. Burress, 92, of Union City, passed away peacefully at UPMC Hamot on March 2, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 26, 1932 in Greensburg, Kentucky.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was employed as a Maintenance Engineer at Corry Hospital, then went to Associated Spring in Corry until his retirement in 1995.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 264 of Corry and American Legion Post 237 of Union City. He also belonged to the Penn York Camping Club and the Beaver Squares Square Dance Club of Corry. He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Scroll Saw Association.

Durward is survived by his wife Rita Earl Stevenson Burress whom he married on December 14, 1990; two daughters Linda Daoust of Round Rock, Texas and Barbara Wade Brooks (Lloyd) of Cresson, Texas; two step daughters Kim Kuberry (Ed) of Spartansburg and Sue Shaffer (Tim) of Union City; two step sons Bob Stevenson (Sheryl) of Deltona, Florida and Brian Stevenson of Erie; a daughter in law Paula Burress of Falls Church, Virginia; several grandchildren, step grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Ann Elizabeth Bridgewater Burress; three brothers Frank, Ralph, and Charles; a son David; and a step grandson Kevin Shaffer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 2:00 PM at Union City Presbyterian Church, 37 W. High Street, Union City.

Burial will be held at a later date.
