Doyle Elwyn Lantz, 82, of 11601 Dawn Drive, Meadville, formerly of Williamson Road, passed away, Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Cochranton, Pennsylvania on May 27, 1929, the youngest and third son of his late parents, John Lantz and Glora Cochran Lantz. He married Inez Mastenbrook on August 8, 1953.
He was a student at Morse Elementary School and was a 1947 graduate of Cochranton High School, subsequently he attended business schools in Oil City, Pennsylvania and Muncie, Indiana.
He served his country honorably in the Korean Conflict and was wounded in battle on October 8, 1951 while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division. He received the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, and the United Nations Medal.
From 1957 to 1987 he was employed by the Cincinnati Water Works in Cincinnati, Ohio. Following his retirement in 1987, he and his wife moved back to Meadville. Together they did volunteer work, delivering Meals on Wheels of many years. He enjoyed walking, watching televised sporting events, and listening to country music, especially bluegrass. He was a devoted son, husband, and uncle.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Including his wife Inez of 58 years survivors are; nieces, Maxine Beisheim and her husband Richard of Butler, Pauline Hartick and her husband Al of Meadville, Marilyn Maple of British Columbia, Canada, Marjorie Vendrasco and her husband Michael of Sedona, Arizona, and Carol Cromwell of Lebanon Oregon; nephews, Reuben Lantz and his wife Barbara of North Olmsted, Ohio, Keith Lantz of Santa Barbara, California, Peter Mastenbrook of Lebanon, Oregon, and David Mastenbrook of Covallis, Oregon.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rex and Fayne Lantz, a sister who died in infancy, and a niece, Barbara Lantz.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. There will be an additional calling hour on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the funeral home from 10:00am to 11:00am. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home with Reverend Robert Goodnough of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Following the funeral service VFW Post 2006 Color Guard will perform full military honors.
Burial will take place in Cochranton Cemetery.
