Donald Edgar Voorhies, 71, of 549 Keely Road ,Franklin died at 1:47 PM Tuesday ,April 22, 2014 at his residence with his loving wife by his side. Born December 9, 1942 in Grove City, Donald was the son of the late William and Lena Belle (McClellan) Voorhies. On July 21, 2007 he married Rose Ann Coon Voorhies, who survives. Donald proudly served his country in The Army in Vietnam, earning a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Marksman and a Good Conduct Medal. Prior to his retirement, Donald was employed as an edger for Glenn Means Saw Mill. He attended the Franklin Church of the Nazarene, and was a life member of the VFW Jesse Greer Post #1835. In addition to his wife Rose , Donald is survived by his niece, Susan Voorhies Bennett; his nephews, Jim Voorhies and Rick Voorhies; his great-nephew, Bailey Voorhies; his sister-in-law, Pat Voorhies; and his constant companion, Tank. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Chuck, Glenn, Jim, Willis, and Richard Burton. A Memorial service for Donald will be announced at a later date by the family. In Donald's memory, memorial donations may be made to Rose to help defray the cost of funeral expenses.
