Donald D. Long, 77 of Franklin, went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home.Born on September 14th, 1941, in Franklin, PA, he was the son of the late David A. and Helen M. (Lowrie) Long.Donald proudly served during the Vietnam War Era as a Corporal E-4 in the United State Marine Corps where he earned his Good Conduct Metal and his Marksmanship Rifle Badge.On, November 6, 1965, he married the love of his life, Donna J. Dolan.Donald was a very active member of the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church where he served as Head Usher for many years. You could always count on Donald for a warm handshake, a happy smile and a hug on Sunday mornings.He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with family and friends. After his retirement from Metalife, Donald spent much of his time creating beautiful wooden furniture with his brother, Paul. These pieces will forever be treasured by many. Donald loved helping people in need but most of all, he loved his family, especially his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Along with his wife of 53 yrs, Donna J. Long, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, Denise L. Guilinger and her husband, John, and Dawn Francic and her fiance, William Vonada; his grandchildren, Alexa Hackett and her husband, Nate, Elias and Gabriel Francic; his great-grandchildren, Spencer Gilhousen and Declan Hackett; his brother, Paul A. Long and his wife, Linda. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Sisney; his brother-in-laws, Wayne Dolan and his wife, Silvia, and Richard Dolan and his wife, Gloria; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Darcy Ann Long; his brothers David A. and Dell A. Long; his sisters, Betty Wilt, Bessie Duffee and Wanda Ward; his brother-in-laws, Charles I. and William O. Dolan, Ralph Wilt and Don Duffee.Visitation for Donald will be held at the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church, 160 Atlantic Avenue, Franklin, on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the funeral service to immediately follow. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S Honor Guard at the church following the service. Interment will be in Cooperstown Cemetery.The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Donald's name to the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church, 160 Atlantic Avenue, Franklin, PA 16323 and/or the Venango Visiting Nurses Foundation, 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin, PA 16323.To send flowers, cards, online condolences or for general information, friends and family are invited to visit www.gardinierfuneralhome.com.
