David Raymond Aikens, 80, of Union City, passed away, Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Corry Manor. He was born on Father’s Day, June 15, 1941 in Union City, a son of Allen D. Aikens and Ruth Green Aikens. He was a kind and honorable man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. David was a 1959 graduate of Union City High School. He studied heavy equipment operation and maintenance at Williamsport Technical Institute which prepared him for a long career as an auto mechanic throughout the Erie area, retiring from Loomis Fargo. He owned and operated Aikens Auto Repair in Waterford and Aikens Auto Sales and Service in Union City. David was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Union City, serving as trustee and offering steward. He was an avid reader and frequent patron of the Union City Public Library, assisting there with maintenance needs. David enjoyed history, genealogy and antiques. Outside of his family, antique gas engines were his biggest love. He exhibited his engines and tractors at shows throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. David was a member and volunteer for many years at Coolspring Power Museum. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Fisk Aikens whom he married on November 26, 1985, in Waterford, PA; two sons, Sidney Aikens of Erie, Seth (Jennifer) Aikens of Phoenix, Arizona; five step-children, Steven (Kim) Flick of Meadville, Caren (Dale) Lewis of Corry, Jana Beck of Erie, Michael (Loura) Flick of Hooper, Utah, and Deb (James) Baldwin of Pittsburgh; a brother, Warren (Merolyn) Olsen of Viborg, South Dakota; and a step-sister Barbara Kelly of Georgia. David is also survived by ten grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-parents, Lillian Aikens and Wilbur Olsen; a daughter, Melanie Ray Aikens; step-brothers Warren and Robert Koch; and the mother of his children, Gloria Benson Slater. A Celebration of Life and burial will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in David's memory to Coolspring Power Museum, 179 Coolspring Road, Coolspring, PA 15730; Union City Public Library, 2 Stranahan Street, Union City, PA 16438; or Union City First United Methodist Church, 42 E.   1. I always made it a point to visit Dave at the McKee Station during the Coolspring shows. His quiet demeanor was like a breath of fresh air during the hustle and bustle of a busy show week. I regret that those pleasant times will now only be memories.
