Corey James Shields

August 29, 1984 ~ February 14, 2025

Corey James Shields, 40, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025. Born on August 29, 1984, in McKees Rocks, PA, Corey was the son of Lynne Singletary Benjamin. He married his wife, Amanda M. Loutzenhiser, on July 10, 2010 and they were lucky enough to share 18 beautiful years together, culminating in their beautiful daughter and Corey’s pride and joy, Delilah.

A graduate of French Creek Valley Christian School in 2002, most recently Corey worked as a buyer for Zurn Industries, Pex Division. But his real passion was fishing. He spent over 10 years at Fish USA working his way from a customer service representative to a lead buyer. He loved spending time on the lake, on the shore and in the creeks of NWPA waterways with great friends, his brothers, nephews and wife and daughter. Corey had been working towards hours to get his PA Captains License, and while doing that spent time with his best friend on Lake Erie, learning the ropes from the best.

Corey had a true zest for life. In addition to the cherished time he spent fishing with his buddies, he enjoyed hunting, and was a big fan of UFC, Penguins Hockey, Ohio State Athletics, and the 49ers. Above all, he took immense pride in being a father to his daughter, Delilah, whom he adored.

Corey leaves behind his loving wife, Amanda Shields and cherished daughter, Delilah Shields both of Conneaut Lake; his mother, Lynne Benjamin of Townville; maternal grandmother, Nancy Shorts of Townville; sister Sonia Shields of Townville; brothers Frank Shields (Theresa), Joe Shields (Kelly), and Aaron Benjamin all of Townville; nephews Christian and Jackson; nieces Mallory and Makenna; uncles Walt Shorts (BillieJo) of Drumore, Pennsylvania and Tracy (Rhonda) Singletary of Conneaut Lake; father-in-law Fred Loutzenhiser of Conneaut Lake; sister-in-law Alicia Kenny (Tyler) of Meadville; and countless fishing friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Harold Shorts, sisters Jane and Ivah Benjamin, niece Gabriella Shields, and grandmother-in-law Ruth Pracejus.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in the near future, with the details to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a Memorial Scholarship in Corey’s memory to be created at Crawford Christian Academy, 543 Randolph Street, Meadville, PA 16335 or at www.crawfordchristianacademy.org/donate/ or a local fishing club or organization such as the Sam Tomlin Memorial Tackle for Tots.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. So sorry to hear of Corey’s passing, and sending my love to Delilah and Amanda. Corey was a lovely coworker at FishUSA and I have only positive memories of him there.

  2. My deepest sympathies to you all . I love you all so much . Corey was one of a kind with a funny loving personality loving personality.

  3. I was deeply saddened to hear about Corey’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. May God’s peace and comfort surround you in the days ahead.

  4. I had the pleasure of working with Corey for several years at FishUSA. During that time, we shared a lot of laughs and he made work so fun. He was truly one of the nicest, most caring people I have ever met. I’ll never forget his joy when Delilah was born or how proud he was to be her father. You will be truly missed, Corey. Keeping Amanda, Delilah, and your family in my thoughts.

  5. I have known Corey through the family for over 20 years and in all that time I can honestly say that he was one of the most honest people I have met. When he said something he meant it, when he said he would be there he was. He has helped on our family farm…. despite being allergic to hay I convinced him to do that once and even put a roof on the farmhouse. I will miss you brother…
