Charles P. Cauvel, 101, of Seneca and formerly of Franklin, passed away at UPMC Hamot on August 13, 2025 with his wife at his side.
Born on March 24, 1924 in Franklin, he was the son of the late Georgia (Baker) and Peter “Bucky” E. Cauvel, Sr.
He spent most of his life in the Victory Heights area.
Charles proudly served during WWII in the US Army in the South Pacific Rim from 1943-1946.
For 23 years, he worked for Amalie Refinery in Franklin and retired in 1987 after working for Pennzoil Refinery in Rouseville for 16 years.
Charles was first married to the former Esther Harry in November 1947. They were married 30 years before her passing in November of 1977.
On April 10, 1987, he married the former Helen Williams who survives. After Charles’ retirement, he and Helen spent 13 winters in Florida enjoying golf and sunshine.
In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his children. He taught himself to play the organ. He was always there to give a helping hand to whoever needed it. Most of all, his family was his world and he loved every moment he spent with them.
Left to cherish his memory along with his wife Helen Cauvel are his children Melvin Cauvel and his wife, Roberta, of Stoneboro, Denzil Cauvel and his wife, Jackie, of Cochranton, Jim Cauvel and his husband, Kevin, of Snow Camp, NC, Bob Cauvel and his husband, Dr. Robert Frieman, of Stockbridge, GA, Dick Cauvel and his wife, Robin, of Clayton, NC, Debra Proctor Owens of Clarion, and Sherry Lee Proctor of Shippenville; his grandchildren Amanda Cauvel of Stoneboro, Josh Cauvel of Allison Park, Sara Bennefield and her husband, Jason of Sandy Lake, Bethany Mitchell and her husband, Ryan of Gibsonia, Emily Bennefield and her husband, Jacob of Stoneboro, and Adam Cauvel of Clayton, NC; his 9 great grandchildren; his one great great grandchild; his siblings Peter E. Cauvel, Jr and his wife, Patty of Franklin and Maxine Montgomery of Franklin; and several nieces nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn McClelland, sons-in-law Jubal Owens, and his brothers-in-law, Glenn McClelland and Stanley Montgomery.
Guests are invited to the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Sunday, August 17 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Services for Charles will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 2:00 pm with Debra Owens officiating.
Charles will be laid to rest in Rockland Cemetery.
