Charles “Chip” L. Heffern, Jr., 68, of Franklin passed away on December 18, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 20, 1956 in Franklin, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Anne Louise (Whitman) Heffern.

He was a 1974 graduate of Franklin High School. Since 1977, He was the owner of Heffern Septic Tank and Portable Toilet Service.

On August 8, 1998, he married the former Julie A. Hummel and she survives.

Chip enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Black Lake, NY and his fall hunting trips in Colorado. With his wife, they enjoyed their travels to different states and national parks, camping at Benezette to see the elk but mostly enjoyed visiting Tennessee and the Great Smokey Mountains. Together, Julie and Chip played pool in the Scotch Doubles Pool League in Franklin.

He was a member of the Franklin Loyal Order of the Moose Club #83, Franklin Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club #328, Rainbow Sportsman Club NAWT, PSMA, and Station 4.

Left to cherish his memory along with his loving wife, Julie of Franklin are his children Jacquie Heffern and her companion, C.J., of Chambersburg, PA, Charles “Charlie” Heffern, III of Franklin, and Quinn E. P. Heffern and his wife, Rachel, of Carnegie; his grandchildren Lauren Heffern, Jaelyn Duhon, Cannon Duhon, Justin Denny, and Josie McArthur; his sister Denise Harper of Cochranton; his many nieces and nephews; and his four legged companions, Cody and Cooper.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step daughter Debbie Morrison Denny, his sister Mary Ann Snyder, and his brother-in-law Larry “Buzz” Snyder.

Friends will be received from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 pm Saturday at the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin. Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Fultz of the Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle officiating. Interment will be private. At the request of the family, please wear your “Team Chip” T-shirts to the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made in Chip’s memory to the Venango Visiting Nurses Foundation, 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin, PA 16323 and/or the Venango 4-H Fairgrounds, 867 Mercer Road, Franklin, PA

    I was fortunate enough to go on several trips to Black Lake and Colorado with Chip. Even on the days when the fish were not biting and the elk were nowhere to be found, I always knew Chip would put a smile on my face back at camp. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.
