Cary Holland, Jr., 87, formerly of Franklin, passed away in his home in Hermitage, PA on February 17, 2018, at 12:51 am with his family by his side.Born on November 13th, 1930, in Grove City, PA, he was the son of the late Cary and Zula (Basham) Holland, Sr.He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War, obtaining the Occupations Medal.Cary worked for Denton Construction in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, retiring in 1980. He then worked for the PA Department of Transportation for 10 years, retiring in 1990, as a machine operator.On January 28, 1956, he married Grace Marie Smith.He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over 40 years where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Usher, trustee and member of the Mass Choir. He was a member of the New Light Baptist Church, Sharon, PA, since 2011.  He was the Chairman of Trustee Board and belonged to the Local #66 Operating Engineers Union.Cary enjoyed gardening, fishing, carpentry and taking care of the feral cats in his neighborhood.Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Holland of Hermitage, PA; his daughters, Carolyn Holland and her husband, Lawrence, of Deltona, FL, Kathleen Holland of Mercer, PA and Theresa McCray and her husband, Vincent, of Harrisburg, PA; the two children they raised, Jayda Poindexter of Raleigh, NC and Jacara Poindexter of Hermitage, PA; his grandchildren Lawrence Wright, Jr., Krystal Wright, Nathanael Wright, Kayla Holland, Lovella Holland, Kwame McCray and Imani McCray and his great-grandchildren Leah Holland and Zariah Powers. He is also survived by his sisters Myrtle Engs of Williamsburg, VA, Barbara Smith of Atlanta, GA and Marjorie Kidd of Altoona, PA and her husband, Ben; numerous nieces and nephews; his God-children, Butchie Basham, Roxanne Basham and Beverly May, and his beloved dog Cinnamon.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Nelliecliff; his sisters Louise Coger and Zola Perdue and his brother Wesley Coger.Friends are invited to the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 11:00 am with Pastor Brian Johnson, Pastor of New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Sharon, PA, officiating.Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S.
