Carol Bermont Burrows, longtime resident of Oakmont, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 surrounded by family. Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years , John Henry Burrows, also of Oakmont. Carol and John had lived in Lakeland, Florida in recent years. Carol lived a full life centered around family, faith, community and service to others. After graduating from Oakmont High School in 1948 and Grove City College in 1950, she proudly began her career at Edgewater Steel Corporation. After marrying John and starting their family, Carol retired from Edgewater and enjoyed her children and many worthy endeavors throughout her years. She was a dedicated lifelong member of Oakmont United Methodist church faithfully serving in numerous roles over the years. She was a founding member of Meals on Wheels delivering weekly meals to those in need. A passionate gardener, she loved the Oakmont Garden Club and spent countless hours in her own backyard oasis. She was also active in the Oakmont Women's Club and a Girl Scout leader. After her children went to college, Carol pursued deeper service to her community and ran for public office. In 1983, she was elected Oakmont Tax Collector, an office she held for twelve years. Carol's heart and home was always open to neighbors, friends, and family and her kitchen table was the center of many lively conversations, a home cooked meal and fun card games ; all offered with a smile and freshly brewed cup of coffee. She and John especially loved when their four grandchildren visited where breakfast waffles with ice cream were lovingly prepared. Carol will be missed by many including her daughter , Barbara Dolan of Plant City, Florida; her son Don Burrows and his wife Meagan of Manhattan Beach, California; four grandchildren Gretchen Chernick and her husband Paul, Christina Zerega and her husband Bob, Marah Dolan and Brennan Burrows; two great grandchildren Jack Henry and Charles Alfred Zerega; and beloved sister Donna Houston of Cheswick, Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 12P.M. at Oakmont United Methodist Church, 419 Maryland Avenue, Oakmont, PA. 15139. Luncheon to follow. All are welcome. The Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335 has been entrusted with the care of arrangements.
