Calvin E. Pierce, 74, of 638 Cherrytree Road, Franklin passed away after an extended illness at 4:40 AM, Monday, April 08, 2013 at Sugar Creek Station in Franklin. Born June 04, 1938 in Franklin, PA, Calvin was the son of the late Melvin and Evelyn (Slaughenhaupt) Pierce. On June 10, 1967 he married the former Barbara Snyder, who survives. Mr. Pierce served in the United States Army. He was employed as a Machinist for General Electric and for US Steel and he owned his own machine shop. Calvin was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Franklin, where he was actively involved and served on many church committees. He was also a member of the Franklin Masons, Lodge #316 and the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, wood working, and animals, especially his dog, Maggie. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Barbara, Calvin is survived by his sons, Scott Pierce, and his wife Lisa of Franklin, Brian Pierce of Franklin, and Christopher Pierce and his wife, Dr. Thea Pierce of Franklin; his brother, Allen Pierce and his wife, Barbara of New Wilmington; two sisters, Lois Pierce of Franklin, and Janet Bish and her husband, Arnold of Franklin; and his six grandchildren, Lindsay Pierce, Taylor Pierce, Kylie Pierce, Audra Pierce, Sofee Pierce, and Cooper Pierce, all of Franklin. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Chance Pierce. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Route 417, Franklin, with the Rev. Joseph P., Martin, Jr., pastor of the Church, officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery . The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church, 2656 State Route 417, Franklin, PA 16323; The American Cancer Society, PA Division, Inc., P.O. Box 896, Hershey, PA 17033-0896; and/or The Franklin Library, 421, 12th Street, Franklin, PA 16323 . I am so sad at hearing of Calvin’s demise. I am sending my sincere condolences & prayers to you Barbara and your family.
