Betty E. Greggs, 89, of Franklin, passed away on December 5, 2019 in Pine Township. Born June 30, 1930 in the Sandy Lake Area, she was the daughter of the late Clarence P. and Emma K. (Tanecnik) Elder. She attended the Sandy Lake Area Schools, Grove City College, and Clarion University. Betty's early employment was with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Special Education. During the 10 year period after the birth of her daughter, she was employed by several local school districts as a part-time substitute teacher. Betty then returned to full time employment for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Social Services. After her state retirement, she began a new career and spent 10 years, part-time, with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), again specializing in Social Services. After her final retirement, Betty followed her dreams of travel to far away places and spent each year visiting most of the world. A love for the Lord, Betty attended Franklin Church of the Nazarene for several years. She was a member of the Belle Letters Club of Oil City, a past member of the YWCA, and a member of the Gallivanter's Club of Oil City. Betty also volunteered with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP). An avid bridge player, Betty enjoyed playing with the Belles Letters Bridge Club every Thursday. She loved caring for her home and tending to her flower garden. Betty was well known for her baking talents and sharing those talents with her friends and neighbors.Betty is survived by her daughter, Pamela Gulnac Carey; and by her grandson, Nicholas Melfi, IIIIn addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouses, William Harold Greggs and George Lewachowicz; her sister Joan Van Syoc As per the family's wishes, there will be no public visitation. I attend church with Betty, she was such a Classy women whom I aspired to be like, very beautiful inside and out, kind, lovely are words I would use when speaking of Betty. My heart is sad! I will truly miss her presence. May God hold you in his loving arms. It was an honor to have known you and a priveledge to have our paths cross.
Betty was one of the kindest people that I have had the pleasure of knowing. I was deeply saddened to learn of her passing, she will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to know her.
Deepest sympathies to the family & friends of Betty. I had the pleasure to periodically work with Betty. Our civil servant jobs coincided together from time to time. She was a beautiful classy lady!
I was so sorry to hear about Betty’s passing. She was a good friend to my Aunt and I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet her. She had a wonderful way about her that filled a room with goodness. She’ll be missed by all. Please accept our sincere condolences at this most difficult time.
