Born in: Oil City, Pennsylvania

Beatrice "Betty" E. McAlister, 94, of Oil City passed away on August 3, 2023 at the Oil City Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Oil City. Born on February 5, 1929 in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Leona (Bell) Russell. Betty married Nick Paich in June of 1946. Together they had six children, Shelia, Pamela, Diane, Steven and Charlene. Their infant son Nicholas Wayne died at 3 mos. Nick preceded her in death in March 2004. Betty worked at the Venango Manor for over 20 years as a nurse's aid. She loved her residents and they were well taken care of, as noted by many cards and thank you calls she received. She later married Robert McAlister who also preceded her in death. Betty loved to cook and bake and her apple pies were the best. She enjoyed having the most gorgeous flowerbeds – we were convinced she could make a rock grow. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Shelia O'Connor and her husband, Tim, of North Carolina, Pamela Wiltanger of Arizona, Diane Puleo and her husband, Larry, of Oil City, Steven Paich of Franklin and Charlene Paich of Franklin; her grandchildren, Melissa Stark of Arizona, Eric Wiltanger of Wyoming, Stephanie Puleo of Oil City, Gretchen Guth of Franklin, Nicholas O'Connor of North Carolina and Brent Eichholtz of Franklin; and her seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her infant son, parents and both her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Caroline Russell and Jane McCauley, her brother Floyd Russell and Son-In-Law, Tim Wiltanger. The family wishes to thank our Cousins – Cletus (Butch) McCauley and Mary Say for the many visits, snacks, vanilla milkshakes and fresh flowers they shared with her. They also wish to thank the staff in Memory Care Unit – Jamie, Kama, Karen, and Dan – you were all very special to her and she loved you. As per her wishes, no public viewing will be observed. A Celebration of Betty's Life will be announced at a later date. Betty will be laid to rest with her infant son, Nicholas Wayne Paich, in Graham Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, Pennsylvania 16323. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty's name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital c/o Marlo Thomas, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
