Angelo Peter Micale was met by St. Peter on Thursday, December 11th. Angelo was born at home, a first generation Italian American, into a coal miner’s family on August 8th 1932 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. As a child of the depression, Angelo left school early to help support his family and had a great work ethic his entire life. As a member of the United Steelworkers union, Angelo retired January 31st, 1990 from the Franklin Steel Mill after 31 years, where his co-workers knew him as “Tony”, a name that followed him from the Oil Well Supply in Oil City. Angelo was a former member of the U.S Army Reserve attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in the Artillery Corps in the Franklin and Punxsutawney units.
Angelo was a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Franklin, Pennsylvania and St. Anne’s in Richmond Hill, Georgia.

Angelo was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus serving in the honor guard where he proudly marched carrying the Stars and Stripes in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Savannah, Georgia at the age of 78.

Most recently, Angelo was a resident of Cambridge Hills Assisted Living and Twin Rivers Independent Senior Living in Pittsboro, North Carolina where he lived an active social life while spending time with his family and his favorite pastime, trying on hats at every opportunity!

Angelo was preceded in death by his parents Giuseppe and Lucy Micale; sisters Francis Anne Bernardo Micale of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania and Freda Witalis of Shelton, Connecticut; his wife of 44 years, Shirley Walker Micale, of Franklin, Pennsylvania; and his daughter Theresa Micale of Utica, Pennsylvania. Angelo is survived by his son Anthony Micale of East Point, Georgia and daughter Tina Keas of Moncure, North Carolina, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Friday, December 19th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services for Angelo will be held immediately following at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Deacon Dick O’Polka officiating followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery alongside his beloved wife Shirley and daughter Theresa.
